Breast cancer risk and ethnicity

Breast cancer affects women of all ethnic backgrounds, but Black, Asian or mixed ethnic women are at greater risk of being diagnosed with breast cancers that are more difficult to treat (including later stage, more aggressive, more difficult to treat sub-types), despite a lower number of breast cancer compared to the white population.

No matter your background, attending regular breast screening appointments is crucial. Screening can detect cancer early, often before symptoms appear - when it is most treatable. Being informed and proactive is the best way to protect your health.

Your ethnicity may influence your risk, but it should never stop you from getting screened.
